Export Cornwall

Business support

Export Cornwall aims to support a step change in the international performance of companies in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and in parallel, attract international investment to support the area′s economic development.

The development of this project is the consequence of extensive regional consultation and the ideas involved have been stimulated, shaped and critiqued by the International Business Forum – the regional group of business people, which helped both SWRDA and UKTI, direct its international efforts following the Globalisation Debates of 2007-08.

The project aims to deliver “a comprehensive and flexible offer to businesses of all sizes and sectors via existing SWRDA and UKTI funded advisers and additional senior staff each of whom will fulfil a specific new role not previously funded in the South West”.

It is stated that ERDF resources will enable a considerable enhancement to the UKTI service offer for all companies (to meet regional and OP aspirations to boost exports and FDI) and to provide a focus on so-called “Lisbon+’ firms – those with a high potential who have the ambition to grow”.

The project states that it will increase the number and scale of businesses trading profitably internationally and increase the number and scale of foreign investors establishing meaningful operations in the South West of England - with the net result of increasing the creation and protection of high quality jobs and triggering downstream positive impacts of Gross Value Added (GVA).

Support for businesses is offered in the form of:

  • Business Development Vouchers - up to £7,500 a year.
  • Support and aftercare for businesses involved in networks and clusters, with particular focus on renewable energy and environmental technologies.
  • Support for businesses to form joint ventures, partnerships and alliances to import and export good practice from national and international experience.
  • Offering a strategic overseas marketing and communications plan.

This £2 million project, which includes £1.5 million from the European Regional Development Fund, aims to support 193 businesses with high growth potential in Cornwall and the isles of Scilly to trade internationally. It will also be targetted at encouraging foreign business investment in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
