Old Duchy Palace
Enabling the historically important Old Duchy Palace in Lostwithiel to secure a long term future and provide a valuable resource for the local community.
It is the first major upgrade of the 700 year old building since 1878. The Grade I listed building will undergo refurbishment with new workspaces being created. The project will be complimented by work funded by the Historic Building Preservation Trust.
By upgrading the facilities and refurbishment of the Old Palace, 7 new high quality jobs will be created in the centre of Lostwithiel by October 2013. This project is also aiming to upgrade and adapt the building to provide high-quality office space to accommodate 7 new full-time jobs.
The building is over 700 years old and the works currently proposed are the first significant upgrade since 1878; major remedial works include natural slate re-roofing, renewal and upsizing of cast iron rainwater goods and re-pointing in lime mortar are expected to last at least another 120 years. Replacement structural timber will be oak. And where possible, locally distinctive building techniques and sustainably sourced materials will be used.
It is hoped that the adaptations will be made to ensure that the building is much more accessible and suitable for the needs of physically disabled users and will be equipped to receive high speed broadband connections.
