Porthcressa Regeneration Phase 1 - Public Realm
The island of St. Marys on the Isles of Scilly is to benefit from ERDF Convergence in order to improve the area surrounding the Porthcressa promenade and beach.
The enhancements will see public amenties replaced and landscaping to improve the area which will be of great benefit to the local community and the economy. It will also enhance the workspace being built with ERDF on the site.
The Porthcressa Bank area will see a number of changes including the demolition of the old Schiller shelter and the creation of new public conveniences and showers. The new development will also have storage facilities, a meeting space and bike racks, outside seating and showers as well as balconies to enjoy the views.
The beach will be made more accessible by providing recessed paving areas with new steps, new paving to improve the flow of people along the banks and more seating. There will be extensive landscaping around the area including a maze, sea garden and ornamental tree areas.
The project will also run alongside a separate project to which will see the building of a new registry office and library and the provision of new workspaces.
