Porthmellon Enterprise Centre
Re-development of a redundant building and adjoining land to create 470 m² of managed workspace for creative and knowledge based businesses.
The proposal has been developed through the Penzance and Isles of Scilly SIF which refers to the Porthmellon Industrial Estate as a poor quality site in need of significant regeneration.
The project is to create 470 m² of new managed workspace on the site of a former industrial building. Made up of ten flexible units, an external storage area as well as meeting rooms and shared communal spaces.
It entails stripping existing cladding (by specialist contractors as a result of nature of the material) and re-using the existing substructures and portal frame to provide new flexible workspace. The building will be re-clad with sympathetic, low maintenance and sustainable materials, with high levels of insulation and the south facing slope will house solar photovoltaic and solar thermal panels to provide some of the electricity and heating requirements of the new building.
The investment will create opportunities for business growth and high value employment, and links will be made with the Next Generation Broadband project and the innovation centres.
