This Grade 2 listed building in St Ives was opened in late 2012 after a two year process of refurbishment,
The building is dual use, comprising of 13 artists’ studios and has historic significance for the creative arts industry. The ERDF Convergence investment among others has brought this building back to life with the improvement of existing employment space and the addition of five extra studios.
The remaining part of the building is the cellar occupied by fishermen, reflecting the buildings previous use solely as a pilchard cellar and net loft.
Along with the opportunity for educational activities for local schools to take place and aspiring artists and undergraduate residencies happening at Porthmeor Studios, the next generation of artists is being inspired here in St Ives. Improved access also allows tourists and arts enthusiasts to tour the building and see the artists working.
