Wheal Harmony Remediation

Preparing for infrastructure
Regeneration

The project will enable the future provision of employment land in the Camborne, Pool & Redruth area by remediation of a 4.4 hectare (10.8 acre) brownfield site known as Wheal Harmony.

It will overcome a number of barriers to development, including contamination, former mine workings and Japanese knotweed.  It will then sustainably service the site, achieving CEEQUAL very good rating, to facilitate future development of high quality employment premises, leading to high value employment.

Adopting a masterplan approach and working with Cornwall Council Planning Team, the project addresses the key delivery issues site, maximising the employment land and also facilitating the provision of affordable and open market housing on the site.  The project will create an employment site with a gross development area of 1.76 Ha (4.35 acres), including roads and services, and an area of open space. The employment site will have a net development area of 1.1 Ha (2.64 acres).  The project will also improve accessibility in the area, providing pedestrian links between North Redruth and the Treleigh Industrial Estate.

Based on the approved outline planning consent, the site could in future deliver up to 5,112 sqm of high quality employment space – and thus in due course support up to 400 jobs, which will be accessible to people in Redruth, with good pedestrian and cycle links.
