Telling the story
What is Convergence?
Convergence is the European economic regeneration programme for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly; it consists of two funds:
European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
European Social Fund (ESF)
Why does Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly receive these funds?
Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly qualified for Convergence in 2005 because its economic performance between 2000 and 2002 had been below 75% of the European Union average.
Convergence is the third significant European programme (following 1994-99 Southwest Objective 5b and 2000-06 Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Objective One Programmes) that we have benefited from.
The only other Convergence area in the UK is West Wales and the Valleys.
Management of ERDF Convergence
At a national level the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) is responsible for ERDF.
